An unusual NYE

Thursday, December 31st. After a bad night and 3 meals taken we do not know too much when, we arrive at Sydney. Left the 30th at 1:30 pm to arrive the 31st at 5:30 pm in only 14 hours … Hard! Finally, after all the controls and having to get back our bags, we try to see how we can go out from here and make the new year in town. We learn that the last bus is in 5 minutes, and that there is not before 5 am in the morning to return to the airport. That presses us too much, we prefer to settle a little. We try to see if we cannot already register our bags in order to be not blocked with all night. But Quantas accepts bags only 3 hours before the flight, that means not before 6:15 am … It is necessary to keep them with us … We say to us that it is can be too much complicated to go into town, and so for the New Year, we can make it in the airport. We take a seat and we look at a film. At the end, we decide to go shopping to see if they have a small bottle of champagne to party at least the New Year in 2! We find something, but we cannot buy it because our flight is only the next day. That begins to nerve us, in more there is already almost no more anybody in the airport … Finally, one of the saleswomen of the store says to us that there are still trains for the city and if we want, the center is only in 15 minutes of the airport. Why not?! We would like to go without our big bags there so we go to see the deposit of luggage, but necessarily, it is closed …

We want all the same to go out, we cannot stay longer in this airport. We leave in the train with all our bags. We do not pass unnoticed, especially in the street!! We walk a little in streets, to see where it is that we could sit down with our bags, in a bar which looks nice. We find there finally one which lets us put our big bags in the room of the casino near the bar. It is more practical all the same without! We go then into this bar and we take 2 small Smirnof Ice while waiting for the passage in 2010. On TVs of the bar, we can see the discount. More than one hour … At about 15 minutes before new year, the barman makes us change tables to leave of the place for a dance floor. We are standing with our glasses in the hand, but 2 nice Australian guy suggest us joining their table. 5-4-3-2-1 Happy New Year!!! That's it, we are in 2010, clink glasses! On the TV, we can see the fireworks which just take place a few kilometers away from the bar. Magnificent! But at the end of 5 minutes, the barman makes us change table again … We rise to the floor where it is more quiet. At the end of moment, the Australian return at home. We do not leave much later either.

After having to get back our big bags, we look for another place where we can wait for the first train, at 5 am. We find just opposite a café "de France ", with nice croissants and chocolate croissants ^^. We sit down at a table and spend time as we can … Finally, it is almost 5 am, we go away and we return to the airport. At 6:15 am, we get ready to register our luggage when the lad of the ticket office says to us that he wants a paper proof of our exit of New Zealand. He explains us that this country is very strict above and that we cannot pass without a printed e-ticket (we have difficulty to understand the importance of the e-ticket if it is so that it is printed). Certainly, we have no exact date of our exit of NZ, but we have all the same the proof whom later we will be in Australia because we already have our tickets. But that does not go to him. We have to go on internet, in a café which uses a printer, to buy a ticket, print it and mean registering our luggage. Indeed on, internet is very expensive here. We look on several price comparators but without being able to deepen our research. Finally, we buy one more or less at haphazardly  … No time to make better. A little disgusting, we return to the recording. We show the electronic ticket to the lady, who begins to say to us that it is not god because there is no number of reservation … She is going to ask her colleagues, and at the end of moment, she accepts finally our ticket. We cannot it anymore!! Now, it is necessary to queue up for the controls. It's worse that in the United States here! That's it, we can finally enplane!!!

The last moments in Buenos Aires

Tuesday, December 29th. For our last day in Buenos Aires and in South America, we decide to go out of the city. There is an attractive place at approximately one hour of BA, who is called Tigre. It is a city, but also a set of islands surrounded by the river. To go there, we have to take 2 trains, but at first walk up to the station, which is not close. But Edgar likes to walk, so it’s not a problem for him!! Once arrived at Tigre, we look for a boat which can take us through islands, but which is not too touristic. We find finally exactly what we need: it is the boat which is of use as bus to the inhabitants of islands. The round trip lasts approximately 4 hours. It’s very nice, is funny to go between islands and to see the houses of the inhabitants, quite at the water's edge. But toward the end that begins to be long, and in more it begins raining … We liked well this small journey, but we expected maybe something more impressive, because a lot of people speak to us about it. Of return in town, we look in place where to picnic, although it is not evident with the rain. Finally, we return to the train station and we eat while waiting for the train, which arrives meanwhile. We finish our meal in the train. Arrived at BA, we convince Edgar to take the bus and not to return on foot! The route by bus lasts one moment, but we arrive finally to Edgar. While we rest and while we take our shower, he is going to jog, as every day. Motivated! As it is our last evening, we would have finding French (met in the evening of Christmas), but we have no answer of their part, then finally we stay in 3. For our last meal, we go to San Telmo in a restaurant which Edgar knows and where they make Tacos. Once again, it is necessary to walk a lot before arriving there. But the meal is not bad, even if the sauce is spiced enough ^^ We spend a nice moment there to discuss and then we return quietly. it is already late, we do not delay too much to go to lie down, a little bit sad to know that South America ends.

Wednesday, December 30th. That's it, it is the day of the departure. We make our bags then we wait for a taxi which has to come at 10 am to take us at the airport. We would have preferred to take a bus, but that would have taken us 3 hours because the airport is in about sixty kilometers of the city and the bus makes detours. 10 o’clock comes, we say goodbye to Edgar and we rise in the taxi. A small hour later, we arrive at the airport. We have time, our plane is at 1:30 pm. But at the moment of registering our luggage, we ask us for the Visa for Australia. But we do not have it … It is necessary to make it spot, what indeed on goes we to couter more expensively and is going to take us a little of time(weather). At the end of moment, the visa is made for Nadège, but for Anaïs that do not walk(work) … In fact, we learn later that she(it) already has her(its) Visa. How it is possible?! That remains a mystery … Well, the important is that it is good, we are authorized to leave! We go at once to the pier because we have hardly time(weather) in the end(final). We rise in the plane which is going to take us on the other side of the Earth. 14 hours of flight(theft), for 14 hours of gap with Sydney.

Monday, December 28th

Monday, December 28th. Before leaving, we put a washing (it was time ^^) We leave then with Edgar to the post office (for the package of Christmas which we send to the family) In the first post office, we buy the box but we cannot send the package, they make not the international departures. We go to a bigger post office (always on foot, Edgar likes walking!) we take a number, we wait one moment for our tour… And there they weigh the package and it is too heavy. It is necessary to go to the central post of Buenos Aires, to Retiro, a little bit far district to go on foot there! The thing it is that it is already enough late, and that we have appointment with a guy of Couch Surfing to eat in the lunch. So we don’t have time to go to the post office. Edgar suggests going there alone while we are going to eat. Too kind!

We find the guy in the center, and the other one French joins us. Funny, we had discussed with her during the evening of Christmas! We eat a famous Argentine beefsteak. Really very very good and very tender, then pear in the wine for dessert hhuuummmmmmmm! Very pleasant lunch.

At 3 pm, we find Edgar a little farther to visit together the district of Puerto Madero, a district compound of dam, a nature reserve (but it was closed), and of big modern high buildings. Honestly, that did not really seduce us! Edgar tells us his problem to send the package: in the post office, they opened all the beautiful presents which we had made. They saw our candies of coca extract (that we returned of Peru) and which are forbidden somewhere else: it is some drug! They give Edgar a bawling out! Lol Then they see the camera and its charger (that of Nadège Which does not work anymore since the rain to Rio), but not the right to send electronic devices … And finally the bottle of pisco (sorry Etienne, that it was your present but now it is empty) Already the bottle is rolled up by several thicknesses (adhesive tape, bag blows up, re adhesive tape, bubbles, big adhesive tape… they spend a long time opening it!) When the bottle is open, oh horror, we cannot send some liquid! So Edgar offered the pisco to a lady in the street) Too much disgusted, we don’t know what looks like our package now … In any case Edgar was ashamed well. Sorry Edgar, and still thank you!

Then, we go back. We make some shopping for the next day (need of a picnic). Rest, internet. Then meal: schnitzel (or milanesa in Spanish) prepared by him mother. A delight! Then we go out. On the base we wanted to see a tango show, but it is really too expensive! Then we decide to go to San Telmo to find a bar with demo of tango. It is already late, so there are no more subway (they stop at 10:30 pm…) thus we have to wait for the bus for a long time, then the bus puts one hour … It is almost midnight when we arrive, and we find a bar, but we see the couple of dancers of tango that on 2 musics … It is always better that nothing! Meanwhile, Manuele, Italian with whom we had taken the courses of tango, join us. Nice evening!

A Sunday as we like

Sunday, December 27th. As on every Sunday, there is a big market organized in the street Defensa of the district of San Telmo. We thus decide to go there, after having got up tranquilly. Very good atmosphere. We like! Plenty of persons are in the street, with stands on the both side and also on the place Dorrego. That makes a little as the markets of Berlin;-) with jewels, old stuffs, knickknacks of all kinds … And then several persons settle down here or there to make some music, what puts some more of gaiety and animation!

We return for 18 hours. We could not return before because we had no more keys: 2 roommates needed keys the day, and we had to return after 18 hours, as 2 new Spanish couch-surfers. But when we arrive they were all 4 eating sushis … We are a little upset because we tried to make things with our host but that not was possible. And while there we go back, they are all at table, suggests us not sharing their meal and sends us even not the word while we make our bags… Too bad, we have tried!

Direction then more on the West of the city to our new host: Edgar. We are in fact in his family because he’s 21 years. He lets us the time to install us before we leave to make a tour on foot in its district to eat an ice cream. We laugh well, he is very nice. In more he speaks German, thus that makes the opportunity for Anaïs re-have a practice a little! (And to see in which speed she forgets the vocabulary).

In Buenos Aires, there are many of Spanish, Italian origin, but also a little bit German. One of the backs-grandfathers of Edgar was German. Edgar has to decide to learn German to to remind his origins and also ask for a German passport, more practical to travel!
